LIQID Medical was founded in Cape Town in 2017 by ophthalmologist Dr. Daemon McClunan, inspired by experiences in rural South Africa, where many glaucoma patients continued to face serious vision challenges despite available treatments. These encounters reinforced the need for new approaches to managing glaucoma. While all existing treatments lower pressure inside the eye, they overlook the opposing intracranial pressure on the optic nerve head. By restoring the pressure balance over the optic nerve head, LIQID Medical is creating the first implant designed to treat the root cause of glaucoma.
