Johannesburg Summit 2024
This year, AfricArena organized six hybrid events across four regions in Africa, leading up to the annual AfricArena Summit in Cape Town. The Regional Events brought together startups, investors, and corporations from across the region and Africa. Over 20 startups from Africa were selected to pitch at the Johannesburg Event, with these events serving as semi-final pitch sessions before the Grand Summit in Cape Town on the 3rd and 4th December 2024.

The Johannesburg Summit took place on April 23, 2024, at 22 On Sloane in Johannesburg, South Africa. The one-day conference featured pitches from over 20 startups from across Africa in specific sectors, from Seed to Growth stage, along with keynotes and panel discussions led by top business, tech, and investment experts in the region.

VC unconference weekend
On the weekend leading up to the AfricArena 2024 Johannesburg Summit, the VC Unconference Weekend was held at Pilanesberg, offering informal engagement opportunities for an open exchange of innovative ideas on deal sourcing, execution, portfolio management, and realization.
This invitation-only initiative had four key objectives:

Mapping the ecosystem within African technology ventures

Creating a standardized knowledge data room

Establishing investment best practices, systems, and processes

Facilitating co-investment opportunities, deal syndication, and ecosystem cohesion
This year, it took place from April 20 to 22, 2024.
FOUNDERS' BOOTCAMP
The Founders Bootcamp is a private workshop dedicated to selected startups from various countries pitched at the AfricArena Summit.
It aimed to foster strong connections, encourage peer-to-peer learning among entrepreneurs, and provide training to equip startups with the essential tools and knowledge needed to showcase and deliver high-quality, concise, and engaging pitches to the right audience effectively.
LEARNING EXPEDITION
Prior to the AfricArena Johannesburg Summit event on April 23, 2024, AfricArena, powered by AfricArise, provided an incredible opportunity for African-based corporates and investors to experience Johannesburg’s booming startup ecosystem on April 22, starting at 9 AM.
This was achieved through visits to innovative spaces at the heart of Johannesburg’s dynamic ecosystem, connecting participants with local entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts who shared valuable insights and stories on key topics.
In short, the Learning Expeditions offered a deep and intimate exploration of these tech hubs—with food, beverages, and transport included!
WIRED SPEED CONNECT
The Digital Collective Africa was thrilled to extend an invitation to attend the inaugural AfricArena Wired Connect event.
This unique speed networking event took place at the Milk Bar Events Venue in Sandton, Johannesburg, on April 24, 2024. Set in a beautiful venue that blends rustic charm with industrial style, the event featured two speed networking sessions: one for Limited Partners (LPs) and General Partners (GPs), and another for GPs and startups.
