AfricArena Investor Roadshow, in San Francisco & New York City:
A Call for Investors Interested in African Tech Innovation

The AfricArena Tour for 2019 featured 2 events in the United State as part of the Investor Roadshow. Instead of hoping and waiting for international investors to step foot into the continent to discover investment opportunities in startups, AfricArena takes the liberty of going to investors and showcasing the incredible opportunities that lie in Africa. For both events, the topic of discussion was “The Next $ 1 billion for African startups” – in reference to the Partech 2019 report that revealed equity funding for African startups reached $ 1 billion in 2018 (for the first time – a number that is expected to significantly rise).

San Francisco

On May 8, AfricArena stepped foot in non-other than Silicon Valley – the most vibrant and established tech ecosystem in the world. In partnership with Schoolab San Francisco, the event brought together bright minds in business and technology under the banner of promoting African tech excellence.

The panel of  speakers included:

Christophe Viarnaud – CEO of Methys Digital International & Founder of AfricArena.

Iyinoluwa Aboyeji – Co-founder of Andela & Flutterwave.

Patrick Consorti – Corporate Innovation & Startup International Expansion – Silicon Valley.

James Milne – Head of Investment Promotion at Wesgro & Board Member at Silicon Cape.

New York City

AfricArena took a bite off the Big Apple on May 13th. Hosted at  SAP Next Gen Innovation Space, in partnership with Wesgro and French Tech New York,  this gathering brought together investors and entrepreneurs for networking and engaging on the endless opportunities that lie in tech ecosystems across Africa.

The panel of speakers included:

Alastair Curtis – Head of US at Aerobotics

Andrea Bohmert – Managing Director at Knife Capital

Christophe Viarnaud – CEO of Methys Digital International & Founder of AfricArena.

Frans Cronje – CEO of DataProphet

James Milne – Head of Investment Promotion at Wesgro & Board Member at Silicon Cape.

A highlight of the event were presentations from 3 fast-growing African startups:

These 2 events on opposite coasts of the US gave AfricArena and its partners good exposure for the work being done to accelerate and consolidate the tech ecosystems in Africa and empower startups.

What is next for the AfricArena Team? Viva Tech 2019!
